Imagine .....

Saturday would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday.  Not sure how much he would have appreciated the use of his name and drawings to sell guitars, but the folks at Gibson here in Montana are surely happy.

Extremely ironic. Epiphone makes an imitation J160E, for around $500, that'a a considerably better guitar than the $2+k Gibson custom shop model. The Gibson is a plywood piece of junk, like Lennon's (Lennon, unlike Clapton, Page, Green, and the other Brit bluesers, was not a guitar aficianado, and bought his J160 off the wall.) The Epiphone isn't exactly superb, but at least it's got a solid piece of spruce for a top.

I'm sorry that John got taken out so young. It seemed to me that he never got a chance to make his piece with having been a Beatle. George seemed anchored quite solidly before he went out, Ringo has always been comfortable in his own skin, and McCartney seems to be having the time of his life, now that he's dumped that gold-digger and gone back on the road.

Believe it or not these are $5,000 - $15,000, but as one ad notes they come with "instant kharma"....

I like the idea of honoring John Lennon's memory and his peace guitar, but not so sure that is what is going on here.

Then let me be a bit less circumspect. It has nothing whatsoever to do with peace or Lennon, or even music. This is about Henry Juskiewicz and Yoko Ono cashing in, plain and simple.

They're not art, and they're mediocre musical instruments. They are a scheme cooked up by some very smart people who have noted that there are a lot of people out there with more money than brains. It's a business deal in which the mendacity of the seller and the stupidity of the buyer sort of cancel each other out.

You want peace? Start by waving to that other driver to go through the stop sign first. Thank a checkout clerk, and actually mean it. Come to think of it, I have someone to thank for a marvelous breakfast.

Couldn't agree more with the analysis. I always thought Yoko was a bit of a gold digger. Shame on Yoko and Gibson.
Thanks for breakfast!

Oh, you mean I can't buy peace and instant kharma? Darn.
