Heaven on Earth

Just back from Nevada City and a great visit with Bob and Helen and their wonderful family.

Dave Hall worked night and day to capture old Paradox reel-to-reel tapes before they disintegrate before our very eyes, and I'm now out beating the bushes for more tapes before they are lost to us forever.  Not sure yet what we'll do with them -- a Paradox museum? a radio documentary? a video? all of the above? -- but the main thing is not to lose these great voices from the past.

Wow... I wasn't aware that old tapes from the Paradox even existed. Of course, the subject may have been covered in previous posts I missed. I think that's very cool and big news... and I would sure love to hear some of that... or, better yet, procure some of that... a sentiment shared by many others, no doubt.

So... has there been any talk of, say, making CDs of specific performers or specific sets? I can imagine just contemplating that raises some legal questions... about ownership or permission. I'd be very interested to hear from some/any of the more knowledgeable (than me) contributors to these pages along these lines. Are there in fact hurdles that would restrict or prohibit the "distribution" of such material to we Paradoxers at large?

Tony we're working on it. Not sure yet where it's going, but I'll keep you posted as we work through the legal questions and the goals we have as a group.

And yes, it is great to hear all these beautiful voices from the past. I'm hopeful we can find more.

Glad to hear that, Diane... and thanks for keeping us posted on issues/progress.

I failed to mention an important assumption on my part, and that is that my "obtaining" absolutely included paying for the privilege of hearing those beautiful voices from the past. I can think of nothing better than supporting those artists today for their performances of yesterday... as well as helping to defray the investment anyone has made/will make in finding and restoring/archiving the music from the old tapes. Btw, I have to credit Chris Andrada for making me realize I'd omitted that paying aspect... having raised that consideration to me in an email.

Thanks to Dave for your talented efforts, to Diane for your persistence, and once again, to Bob and Helen for hosting and supporting Paradox music! And to all those music makers way back then -

Thanks, Sherry! I'm sticking with this. At this point I feel it's my life's work.
