Speaking of movies, one of the best I saw this year was Inside Job, which just won the Academy Award for best documentary. Just checked Netflix and it's available March 8. Worth watching!

"Inside Job" is brilliant. Takes a subject that normally makes my eyes glaze over, made it completely understandable, and made me angry enough to go on a letter writing and blog posting tear. (Obama never gets back to me. Do you think it's something I said?) Fergusan's "No End In Sight" is just as good and just as bad for your digestion.
Helen and Bob, how goes it with the heat and plumbing? I had a power blowout on Friday night, and now really appreciate having a property management firm with a 24 hour answering service and electricians on call. My rent's miniscule, and the building is old, but they do take care of us.
I get the shivers thinking of you guys up there with no heat.

What was incredible about Inside Job was not only his story telling skills for a topic that might otherwise put most of us to sleep, but the visual quality of the film was also spectacular.
I have a friend who is thinking seriously of moving to Iceland where he feels like there's a potential democratic Renaissance underway. He knows all about the bank situation there but I told him he should see the movie anyway because of spectacular scenery that starts the movie off.
But what's amazing is that the film makes Wall Street look almost that brilliant -- sort of gilded as it were. I walked away stunned by it.
Oh but we always have heat...wood stove, Worth it's weight in gold. I keep two big kettles of snow melting and keep adding to it. Good for washing dishes, bathing, then flushing. Just like your Great Grandparents did, City boy.....We have had more than usual power outages this season. We do have a generator that we'll run a couple of hours so we can keep the fridge going. It got down to 16 degrees, I broke off icicles and put them in the fridge, I thought I was brilliant to think of that. The very worse part is being stuck and not being able to get out. Cabin fever big time. I happily trade this however, for not living in the OC. Makes me crazy when we go for a visit. After 3 days in traffic we go nuts.....
A couple of years ago we had a serious storm that shattered my bedroom window and the window of my neighbor's studio apartment as well. We spent the next 20 minutes getting our electronic stuff like her TV, my recording gear, and instruments, into the hallway and out of the rain that was coming in the gaping holes. Then we spent the night camped out in my living room with the power out.
Never have we had it that bad, except when Daisy jumped through the window. Amazingly she wasn't hurt. We'd gone for a few hours and left her in the house. That's when we got the doggie door.

We had our movie night last night with Scaff and Virginia. Watch the "Source" a documentary about the Beat generation. Have you seen it? Do....

We marched forth for pizza and beer, but we had a great time. And then Gary sent chocolates. Perfect day!
Now it's back to work on making the almost Dr. an actual Dr. It's getting there!
