Last Gayle Gig of the Summer

If you're coming back by SF after the reunion, you could catch my band on Sunday evening, at 6PM. I thought we were going to have to blow this off, because I wasn't about to miss the reunion, but Gayle got us moved up the ticket, and we're going on last. And, as some of you know, we're a lot more twang than folk. But this is always a great festival, and I'm glad to be able to do it and P3.

It's at the Presidio Middle School at 30th and Geary, and running all weekend.

And, for what it's worth, this was my Facebook blurb on the reunion.

Rik Elswit That was one hell of a three day picnic. Wonderful seeing MCatherine and Jana. Steve Noonan ran it beautifully without having to tear out his hair, Michaelray did the best job of making lemonade out of the lemons he got handed (Who breaks a flatpick AND a string on their opener, turns it into just another part of his act, and triumphs?) The vocal trio, Harmonius Combustion, were just stunning and pretty damned clever, as well, and when they backed up Cat Girton, covering Cee-lo, as Cat and the Crone-tones, my evening was made.

Penny Nichols just radiates warmth and beauty, and it was a joy getting to play backup for her, and having Hank Jr. playing percussion for me on "True Love" took the weight off me and let me do a great read on the lyrics. Ralph Barr has become the Buddha of the Blues, and Bruce and Rob sing so beautifully together. I was struck by the beauty of the melodies on both theirs and Penny's songs.

But it wasn't just old friends. The journey continues, and there were a lot of new acquaintances made, and I got to pick with new friends. Eric Scott did an amazing performance of Ginsberg's "Howl", having memorized it that day, and there was a new generation of young pickers up there who were just a kick to be around (and who came running to help me get my Tracker out of the ditch).

You can tell who people are by the friends that gather around them. Helen and Bob Sheffer, and Hank and Cordi Fisher. must have put a lot of good out into the world to have all these good people want to come back and celebrate with them. Norma is always moved by how loving a gang this is, and this was one for the ages.

Helen can now have her house back.

And a good time was had by all. Thanks to everyone who contributed to making this the best, last reunion ever!

The reunion was filled with excellent conversations and affirmation. I'm still 'living in the magic' of a 'circle unbroken' made up of friends for whom I hold great affection.
Thanks to each of you for the connection woven with the tapestry of musical threads that remains steadfast between us.

IF this link works, the 2:10 Train is the first entire song on this soundcloud download
Just trying to make up for the fact that I couldn't recall all the lyrics!
