Flooding up here, too, and not just along the rivers. I've been digging ditches trying to keep some of the rain water out of my house. And it just keeps coming.

Can't argue with Mother Nature....

I have no idea what's going on, but rain in SF, and hail in Mill Valley , in early June, is way out or the ordinary.

Weird isn't it. The big weather problems are in the Bible Belt, where there is the most denial about global climate change.

How's the weather in Nevada City?

I'll be wearing snow boots a rainslicker, longjohns, goggles and snorkle this year.

I thought I was the only one that noticed the string of natural disasters had cut a swath through the heart the Bible Belt. Things that make you go, Hmmm!

Weather down our way has been pretty nice.

Wow! That is a great picture.

Just a little snapshot from out my window ...

Not many scientists are drawing a straight line between global warming and the spate of violent weather we've been seeing... and in weird places, like Calif. and Mass. (and Raleigh where a tornado ripped through town on April 16th and killed some folks).

But what you're likely to be hearing more about in the coming months/years is the straight line between increased moisture in the atmosphere and its contribution to the energy that drives violent weather... and then the currently dim line between a warmer atmosphere and higher moisture content will start to become brighter.

Looking forward to seeing y'all shortly!!

And as I understand it, the reason there is more moisture in the atmosphere is that the oceans are warming. Back even before the Katrina hurricane, they predicted that this increase in moisture would "fuel" bigger storms.

Every Memorial Day I drive to Southern Minnesota -- except for one year, this is the first year since my mother died that I haven't gone. And it's a good thing. First came the predictions of severe rain and hail storms, including tornadoes, in Minnesota and the Dakotas, and then on Memorial Day the entire south eastern part of Montana started to flood.

Even if I could have driven out there, I probably wouldn't have been able to drive home. Apparently even the interstate was closed.

It's getting scary out there!

Diane, you had to stay home and keep the water from entering your house too.
Hopping we dry out, muddy, wet and cold here. This is June? Hoping it warms up soon.

Diane, were you able to keep your house from flooding?

Diane Smith said...

Fortunately, no flooding, although the driveway next to the house was about two inches under water. And you're right -- I was lucky to be here over the weekend.

I'm on the downside of a hill, so all the water seems to flow the way nature intended -- right toward my house. I even had my driveway redone so it isn't a direct chute, but it still drains right into the front of the house. I dug another trench to channel some of it off and into my garden area. I also need to build up the area on the street before we get the next big rain -- Tuesday.

"....for the rain it raineth every day ..."

Watched Great Performances last night with Eric Clapton and the 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago. The music was amazing!

Some young guitarist named Jonny Lang could even keep up with Buddy Guy. Bill Murray as Buddy Holly, Elvis, and Jimi Hendricks was pretty good, too.
