Sandy Rothman / Steve Pottier

Tony this ones for you. If you don't have this cd in your collection you should. Its a great chance to A-B a great D-18 and D-28. On the cd Rothman is playing a 1955 D-28 right Ch. and Pottier a 1963 D-18 Left Ch. This cd is now out of print but still available if you look around. The playing is brilliant.

I'm not sure what guitar he's playing on the video but still great stuff. Enjoy!

This is a great CD! I gave Ralph a copy of this tasty duetfest back in the 1990's. Like Gary says, it is something that any picker should have in his or her collection.

The Guitar in the video looks to be a D-28 Martin, but the video is too dark to my eyes to suss out the pertinent details as to year. Despite the liner notes which tells you the year and type of guitars played on this CD, in the CD cover picture, they are both playing D-28's. I don't see the herringbone round the top though, so I think they may be later 40's forward. But the reality is, just get the CD, you will enjoy it!

God, I have a copy of this from about 20 years ago. Pottier is, with the exception of Tony Rice, the reigning expert on the Clarence White guitar style.

Thanks, Gary, for throwing this one up for all of us! I have a very limited knowledge of bluegrass, but a keen appreciation for bluegrass purveyors, and it's always fun to watch/listen to the really brilliant players. These two are clearly in that category.

There's a recently opened acoustic venue near our house (The Six String Cafe... I really hope they make it), and they host a bluegrass in-the-round jam twice a month... "all skill levels welcome," which works for me. I've been toying with heading over and giving it a go.

Now... about getting my hands on that CD... I've looked and it looks to be basically unavailable. Maybe it's time for me to hit on my Paradox brethren for a copy... ? ;-)
Thanks, again, for the post, Gary!

Hi Tony, I can get you a copy if you would like. I no longer have the CD cover with all the pertinent info, but would be happy to send you the CD. I would need to know where to send it though.

This is what I call double-dip hitting on my Paradox brethren... but I'm game if you two are. I take my important parcels (read - anything I don't want sitting around in the mailbox at home) at work... and that address would be:

Tony Duque
NCDENR, DWM
401 Oberlin Rd. #150
Raleigh, NC 27605

I owe you both - you, Gary, for trying to keep me on the straight & narrow, and you, Chris, for pulling me to the dark side... and I'll think of you both as I enjoy those great players & tunes! Many thanks, guys!

The dark side? hahahahahahaha! I am sending the actual CD, not a pirated copy or anything, I just don't have the jewel case and cover art :-). I will be happy to get that cd in the mail to you next Friday, as I am not at home for this, and most of the following week.
